Breaking News: More Failures of the Modi Government Are on Full Display

Another bridge has collapsed in India, and once again, there is silence from the mainstream media, often dubbed the "Godi Media." Over the past decade, 285 people have died due to bridge collapses, yet the Modi government has largely remained silent on these incidents. This raises significant concerns about accountability, especially since much of the infrastructure construction is undertaken by companies linked to Adani and funded by the Indian government.

One of the most tragic incidents occurred recently in Gujarat, where a suspension bridge collapsed, killing at least 141 people and injuring many more. The bridge, a colonial-era structure, had only recently reopened after months of renovation. The investigation revealed that the bridge was reopened without a proper fitness certificate, and forensic reports indicated that the bridge's cables were rusted and its anchors broken, unable to support the new heavy flooring and the weight of the crowds.

Despite such tragedies, the BJP continues to secure electoral victories, raising questions about the authenticity of these outcomes. The government's reluctance to allow independent Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) examinations and its efforts to ensure the Election Commission of India (ECI) is staffed by its appointees further fuel suspicions. Meanwhile, the judiciary appears passive, unwilling to challenge the BJP on these critical issues.

There is also a troubling general apathy among the populace. Many Indians turn a blind eye to these issues as long as they are not directly affected. This complacency has allowed rampant corruption to flourish unchecked, with trillions of dollars reportedly siphoned off over the past decade. Those benefiting from this corruption are determined to maintain the status quo.

Rail accidents, resulting in numerous deaths, are similarly dismissed as inconsequential, with victims often being unaccounted for. Supporters of the BJP argue that these sacrifices are necessary for India's progress, attributing all advancements to Modi's leadership. They overlook the foundational work laid by previous Congress governments, which set India on its path to growth. Instead, Modi's administration has significantly increased India's debt by $2 trillion over the past decade, with little to show for it aside from toll roads funded by the public.

Modi's recent trip to Italy, where he was uninvited to the G7 summit, was another point of contention. It was seen as a humiliating spectacle, with Modi appearing to seek validation through selfies with important figures. The narrative of Hindutva, pushed by the BJP, seems to hold sway over many, but it is leading the country down a path that could make it resemble Pakistan's troubled state.

Interestingly, despite the BJP's investment of thousands of crores in the Ram temple, the voters of Ayodhya rejected the party, indicating a shift in public sentiment. Instability plagues the government as Modi and his allies resist sharing power with their partners. With sufficient numbers, the opposition could potentially form a government with the INDIA bloc if these partners decide to abandon the NDA. This would be disastrous for the BJP and its financial backers, who have been propping up the government for the last ten years.

In conclusion, the systemic issues within India's infrastructure, a lack of accountability, and widespread corruption pose significant challenges. The nation's direction in the coming years will depend heavily on whether the opposition can capitalize on the current discontent and form a stable government. The silence of the media and judiciary only exacerbates these problems, making it crucial for the public to demand transparency and accountability from their leaders.
