Sabotage from Within: The Vinesh Phogat Controversy

A Real Winner on the Global Stage

How can we fail our daughters so easily? First, let them be abused by a power-hungry man, then protect the abuser and humiliate the victim. When your pride blinds your humanity, and after she has overcome all that, you then provide her with a team to sabotage her victory. All Indians should be ashamed of this.

India has always taken immense pride in its athletes, and Vinesh Phogat was on the brink of creating history by potentially winning the first Olympic gold medal for the country. This moment of glory, however, seems to have been thwarted by those in power, raising questions about the integrity and intentions of the current leadership.

Phogat’s disqualification from the Olympics for being just 100 grams overweight shocked many. The solutions to this minor issue were simple—cutting hair or other quick weight loss techniques—but no such measures were taken. This has led to suspicions about who might have been influencing these decisions and why they seemed intent on ensuring Phogat did not succeed.

The fact that Phogat had previously won a silver medal without any weight issues further deepens the mystery. Why, then, was she disqualified? The silence and inaction of the Indian Olympic Committee in challenging this decision are troubling. Had Phogat returned with a gold medal, it would have been a moment of national pride. However, it seems this might have been an inconvenient scenario for Prime Minister Modi and his ministers, some of whom have faced allegations of misconduct against female athletes.

The implications of Phogat's disqualification extend beyond sports. It casts a shadow on the credibility of the current leadership, suggesting a willingness to undermine the nation's talent for personal and political gain. The disqualification raises the uncomfortable possibility that ensuring Phogat's failure was more important than celebrating her potential success, a success that would have undoubtedly brought international acclaim to India.

This incident reflects a broader pattern of behavior from the current administration. If such leaders had been in power during India’s independence in 1947, the country's unity might have been at risk, potentially splitting into numerous factions. The argument that Hinduism unites India falls flat when considering the diverse practices of Hinduism across different states. The current leadership's divisive tactics could have had disastrous consequences in a less resilient nation.

Indian citizens should feel a profound sense of shame and anger towards a leadership that appears more invested in preserving its ego than in celebrating the achievements of its people. Vinesh Phogat, through her dedication and accomplishments, has already proven herself as a leader. Her capability and spirit stand in stark contrast to the actions of those in power.

As India strives for global leadership, it must reflect on the values it wishes to project. True leadership uplifts and supports its people, celebrating their successes and standing by them in their challenges. The Vinesh Phogat controversy is a stark reminder of the damage caused when leaders prioritize personal gain over national pride.

    1. True, having Nina Ambani on the Olympic committee was undoubtedly instrumental in orchestrating this masterpiece. When Vinesh triumphed over her three opponents, she was under 50kg, making it nonsensical for the Olympic committee to strip her of her silver medal. But even a silver medal would have been too much for Modi to stomach, a blow to his fragile ego. Let's face it, Modi doesn’t love this nation; he loves himself—a man who once grandly claimed to have brought Ram back.
