The World of the Willfully Blind
The World of the Willfully Blind
Today I
witnessed something strange,
A fearless voice broke every chain.
It asked, Who seeks? Who claims to know?
And drew the line both clear and plain.
Some were
angered by those words,
By what that speaker dared to say.
A student is one who seeks new truth,
And learns a little every day.
But those
who claim they know it all,
No greater fools can there be found.
And those who march behind them blind,
Wear even heavier folly's crown.
They borrow
tales from others' lips,
And swear they're nothing else but true.
Yet when they're asked, Where's your proof?
No answer ever breaks on through.
In darkness
they have built a world,
Yet call that prison paradise.
One larger-than-life leader appears,
And soon he's worshipped as all-wise.
So never
drag such souls toward truth,
Nor pull them into reason's light.
For those who fear the dawn itself
Will always choose the endless night.
In Rama's
name they gather crowds,
To bless the throne with sacred flame.
Then in that very holy name,
They rob Lord Rama all the same.
They
plunder schools, they weaken minds,
Lest learning spread from door to door.
For educated hearts may ask
The questions feared by those in power.
Why do we
let this happen still?
Why grant them chance on chance once more?
They feed us lies at every turn,
Yet we believe them as before.
Once more a
carefully crafted lie
Was placed before the nation's youth.
Too many trusted every word,
And wandered farther from the truth.
Then Rahul
rose and calmly spoke;
Some benches burst in loud disdain.
He never pointed at a soul,
Yet somehow they felt called by name.
Education
lights the darkest paths;
Its flame can pierce the deepest night.
Had they embraced the words he spoke,
Perhaps they'd finally see the light.
Now whom
should all their anger blame?
The truth is often hard to bear.
Though Rahul named no one at all,
Their own reflection still was there.
When
one-eyed kings rule worlds gone blind,
Even the blind begin to fear.
They dare not leave the hand they hold,
For truth is what they dread to hear.
So never
lead them, even by chance,
Into a world where facts remain.
For once the truth stands face to face,
They could not forgive themselves again.
